Specialization in Haematology at the University of Bologna in 1981 cum laude; specialization in Oncology at the University of Padua in 1984. In 1979 recipient of a scholarship of the National Research Council of Italy for adjuvant therapy of colorectal cancer.

Since 1980 assistant at the Medical Oncology Unit at the Civil Hospital in Ravenna (Italy) and from 1999 head of the High-Dose Chemotherapy Unit at the same Institution until 2007. From July 2007 Director of the Medical Oncology Unit in Treviso (Italy) until May 2015. At the present time Medical Oncology consultant for research at the Scientific Institute San Matteo in Pavia (Italy).

From 1990 Secretary of the Breast Cancer Registry of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) Solid Tumors Working Party. From 1994 until 2001 Chairperson of the EBMT Solid Tumors Working Party and Chairperson from 1998 until 2002 of the Italian Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation Solid Tumors Working Party.
Chairperson of the EORTC-ABMT Group for 1995. Consultant of the Oncology Unit at the Hospital of Timisoara (Romania) from 1990 until 1997. From 2001 until 2005 Member of the Board of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM) and chief of the AIOM project “International Scholarship”. Member of Faculties of ESMO, ESO, ESH, in several countries.

Author or co-author of over 100 papers (Oncology and Haematology topics) and book chapters. Co-author of the National Italian guidelines for use of hematopoietic growth factors for 2009 and 2010. Speaker in over 200 events in Italy and abroad on supportive care, nausea and vomiting, testicular cancer, bone marrow transplantation in solid tumors.

National representative of ESMO for Italy in the period 2006-2008 term extended from 2009 until 2011. Elected as a member of the Board of Directors ESMO January 2007 for a three-year period. Member of the Membership Committee of ESMO until 2012. ASCO member.

Chairperson of the National Guidelines on Testicular Cancer and co-author of the European Guidelines of Testicular Cancer. President of the Italian Germ cell cancer Group (IGG) from 2005 until 2008 and then from 2011 until 2014. From January 2015 President of Cosmohelp, an association for help of children necessitating treatment in Italy from low income countries.
